When I dare to be powerful -- to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid. -Audre Lorde
Literary crush:
Connie Willis, especially for To Say Nothing of the Dog and Doomsday Book -- I thought both were brilliant reads!

Traveling style:
I used to do the backpacking, hiking style. Now, due to a medical condition that limits my energy, I have to travel in a more "ZhaZha and FiFi go traveling" style (porters and nice hotels when traveling alone). Mostly I travel to my friends' houses (in other countries) and then we rent houses in the countryside from which to explore surrounding areas, whether it's the Welch coastal paths or the French Pyrenees.

Where I've been:
I spent a month as an au pair in Geneva and rural France at 17. I spent a year at university in south east London at 20. Lived overseas in Windsor England, Dublin Ireland, and Paris in my late 20s. Go back every year or every other year ever since. Have traveled extensively in the UK, Ireland, France, and frequently to other parts of W. Europe. Saw the Berlin wall the year before it came down (and was in Eastern Europe briefly that year too). Went skiing in the Alps with the French Army Reserves (it's a long story, which is much less sluttish than it sounds!)... :-) ).
